The beginning of RMAC women's basketball play opened up with the University of Nebraska-Kearney (5-2, 1-0) traveling to Silver City, NM to face RMAC newcomer Western New Mexico University (0-4, 0-1). Kearney downed the Lady 'Stangs 83-61.
The visiting Lopers shot an impressive 69% from the charity stripe, and 40% from the field.
UNK had six players in double digits, led by Amy Mathis and Liz Fischer with 14 points. Melissa Henley added 13, Katie Torland 12, Jade Meads 10, and Megan Becker 10 points. Kearney dominated the boards tallying 50 rebounds to WNMU's 27.
Leading the Lady 'Stangs was Crystal Smith with 18 points. Kristyn Valenzuela finished with an 11-point effort despite fouling out.
Western will be back in action on Saturday, December 9, at Drag's Court in Silver City, NM. Tip-off time is set for 6 P.M.
